i just did my FA on FAFSA.ED.GOV and I have a question? I already finished submitting it and came back with an EFC of 2208, What exactly does that mean? Will that change or affect me getting more grants or loans when I get married this july 2008 for next year when i apply through FAFSA again.
Financial Aide Question about (EFC) Expected Family Contribution? That means you should be able to afford 2208 towards your tuition. Your grants will change when you get married, your spouses income will be included.
Financial Aide Question about (EFC) Expected Family Contribution? An EFC of 2208 means that you (and your parents, if you're a dependent student) should be able to afford to pay $2208 toward your cost of attendance for the 2008-09 academic year. It also means that, if you're pursuing a first undergraduate degree, you may be eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant.
As to whether your EFC will change next year when you file as a married student, the answer is "yes". But how it will change depends on the financial status of the person you're marrying. If you're marrying someone who isn't going to college (so your "number in college" would still be "1"), and perhaps has a decent income and some assets, your EFC will probably go up (considerably). But if you're marrying another college student (so your "number in college" would then be "2") who doesn't have much in the way of income or assets, it may not increase your EFC at all. Like so many other financial aid questions, the answer is "it depends..."
Good Luck!
