Suggestion for you - You can always try the Department of Labor...they will be the best to know about any monies out there in a program to help you.
Charities and local community organizations may also be able to help you out. You won't know till you ask.
One of the other things that helped me was my family...it wasnt much by any means...but together it did help out a little bit.
I also started paying off my loans when I was still in school. I started out just paying the unsubsidized interest and then started paying a little more to help reduce it.
Now I know that your situation is different...I am only sharing with you how I did it. I hope that if anything else, I helped a little bit in getting your mind going on where to look. Knowing is half the battle the hard part is making it happen.

Books. I befriended a few fellow students and we all started sharing books. The books that colleges use don't change all too often unless a new edition comes out. (which is usually a word or two and they change the edition number)
They would take a class and then I would purposely save it till the next semester. I would borrow books all the time and would let them borrow mine. The only thing is...I would ask them not to write in the book. That way, I could sell it back.
