Granted its not much of a savings...but...it does add up.
For all of you who say it's possible to graduate college without debt (or fund one's own education)?Brian's answer was very good. I have additional info. Also keep in mind if getting your degree was easy, everyone would do it - and no one would need it.
You have to decide what is most important and right for YOU. Most questions are a trade off.
You can attend just part time (and work full time or more) to keep costs down and "pay as you go" but it would take longer.
You can attend full time, but then you'd have to borrow more...you might not could do a full time job, but you could work two part timers.
Another thing you might consider... try a less expensive school. Even if its just for the first two years.
I worked two jobs during college (working more than full time) and went to school full time. It was tough, but working the graveyard shift and on holidays and weekends - not getting a penny of holiday or overtime pay - never let me forget why I was getting my degree.
Here is a good Dept of Education publication about the maximum loan amounts you can borrow.
Good Luck.
