I currently attend the University of Akron, which is not in the Top 100. I failed myself by not even looking at rankings when I decided to go to law school. I did well my first year and have applied to transfer to a few better schools. Michigan because it's such a good school and Florida because I would like to practice in Florida eventually (but not necessarily right away). I was accepted to both. I also am waiting on a decision from Penn.
My question: Should I transfer? I currently receive a full-tuition scholarship. To transfer to Michigan, I'll need to take out another $60-70K in loans over the next two years. Florida is less bad, with just $20K in loans over the next two years, but it's not the stellar school that Michigan is. I do want to be with a big law firm, so I figure that means the loan will be easy to pay off, but I also don't want to do that the rest of my life (thinking a max of 10 years before doing private practice and seeking an academia position) THX!!!
Should I transfer law schools? With a degree from Michigan, you can go anywhere. Go there if you can.
Or else, stay at Akron and take out no student loans and get the best grades. If you think you can graduate *** laude or better at Akron stay there.
I wouldn't bother with Florida.
Should I transfer law schools?Personally, if you can do Florida and end up with $20 K in the next two years, since you want to practice there, that may be a good deal because you will be immersed in the society and more familiar with local regulations.
