im desperate to pay off my loans. creditors have been threatening me legal suits. dont want to file for bankruptcy. i know now only an individual can lend me the money i need with my bad credit history.

(2) It takes ages (literally years in a lot of cases) for a creditor to sue you. They just tell you that crap to scare the sh** out of you & make you pay them instead of buying groceries. Learn to HANG UP on them!
(3) If you only have $10k in debt, you are nowhere near bankrupt, you are just in a pickle & scared because you do not know how to get control of your finances.
(4) Go to a library or bookstore & get a copy of Dave Ramsey's "Total Money Makeover". It will teach you how to get control of this situation, even if you can't make all your payments right now. DH & I have been following it for about 3 yrs. We have paid off wwwwwaaaaayyyyy more than $10k. It is not some stupid "fix your crappy credit in 10 days" plan. it is simple, practical steps that will make ALL the difference if you do them.
