Anyone ever hear of Zopa?
The key to financial power lies in your credit rating. If you plan to get a home loan, save money and get better credit starting now!
Who is behind Zopa?
We are venture-backed by Balderton Capital (formerly Benchmark Capital, Europe), Bessemer Venture Partners, and Wellington Partners. Additionally, we've received significant personal investments from Tim Draper (of Draper Fisher Jurvetson) and the Rowland Family (London, UK). The total amount raised to date is $34 million through Series A, B, and C rounds.
What does "Zopa" mean?
Zopa is a term taken from business theory. It stands for Zone of Possible Agreement and is the overlap between one person's bottom line (the lowest they're prepared to sell something for) and another person's top line (the most they're prepared to pay for something). If there's no Zopa, there's no deal.
Is Zopa a U.S. company?
Yes, we are. Zopa Inc is a US company chartered in Delaware. There are Zopa operations around the world, too--in the UK, which launched in 2005, and more recently in Italy as well. Just as we have a US-based team doing business in the US, those countries have local teams in those countries as well.
Is Zopa the same in each country?
Zopa is a global holding company chartered in Delaware. We expect to launch operations in many countries, and we also expect that P2P lending will take different forms in each country, to account for difference in local laws and cultures. We will certainly be a social finance company in each country we operate in--but what that means will vary a bit.
