ok, my fiance and i are planning to get married next september of 2008. he told me the other day that he decided he wanted to go to film school in hollywood with his good friend and that it will cost about $38,000. the course only last a year then he's done. he will be done a month before our wedding. I am worried tho because he picked the worse possible time to want to go to school and i don't want us to get married with a bunch of debt. he is taking out a bank loan for $45,000. $7,000 of that will be for rent for a year. That's another thing is we are already in a long distance relationship and he would have to move 1 1/2 hours further from me. That also causes a problem too because im planning the wedding and i need him closer to help me plan, etc. He will be working tho while in school. he told me he really wants to do this and that he will be able to pay it off. the loan will be for 20 years. he told me it's his deal and i told him we will be married so his debt will be my debt.
What should i do?? should i postpone my wedding??Starting a marriage out with a substantial amount of debt can be suffocating. I understand his desire to go to school and that is a noble reason for the debt. A 20 year loan? I think that's a bit much for him to ask you to bear along with him. Where I'm sure he will be successful as a film-maker, it's still a long a arduous journey to get to the top. It doesn't happen over night.
