What should i do?? should i postpone my wedding??
The key to financial power lies in your credit rating. If you plan to get a home loan, save money and get better credit starting now!
In addition, you're already in a long-distance relationship. If this has always been a long-distance relationship, and you have never lived locally, it's very unlikely you know each other well enough to marry.
You have enough red flags here that IMO you *should* be postponing or cancelling the wedding.
What should i do?? should i postpone my wedding??The posts above have been excellent, and I echo their advice. If you have any doubt, postpone.
Lots of people have student debt (or house debt, or car debt, you name it). And many successfully manage that debt. You and your fiance can, too. But you will need to run the numbers and figure out what you need to live on and how much you jointly need to earn to get by. YOU CANNOT LEAVE THIS TO CHANCE -- it will not work itself out later. Disagreements about money are a marriage killer. Your situation cries out for premarital counseling AND the services of a certified financial planner.
I would also want to know what kind of loan he is taking out. Some student loans are frequently at below-market interest rates; some are at or above market. You need to find out exactly what kind of arrangement he is thinking about as it directly affects your future.
By the way -- what exactly is "film school in Hollywood?" Is he talking about USC or UCLA or Cal Arts? If it's not one of these programs, I'd have a lot of questions about whether the program will help him get a job.
