My hubby and I are interested in starting our own comic book shop. We've talked about it for a few years now... and we've decided to start process on getting it this year.

We just have no idea what we're doing.

I know that women can get breaks on things for starting a busines, so we plan to have the place in my name. Other than that, though, we're lost. Business plans, loan meetings, things like that- we just don't know what to do for those...

Any one start their own business and have some pointers?

I found a great resource on how to start your own comic bookstore, including where to get distribution agreements to be able to sell DC, Marvel and other comic titles. This site also discusses the discounts you can get from the dealers based on your volume, and other very helpful information.

For a retail store, you will also need to consider the following:

1. choosing the best location that you can afford

2. getting all the licenses and permits to operate a store (from retail license to fire safety to zoning)
