they said we will get this back regardless if we get approved or not.we still are waiting to hear if we are getting approved,they held the check all this time.but cashed it today.Is that a good sign that we got an approval on the loan?

First I haven't heard of putting up earnest money for just approval for a loan. I have heard of putting up earnest money for the contract to buy a house which is contingent on financing. Sounds like you were actually filling out a contract to buy on the hopes that you would get financed. Read every thing that they give to you whether you understand it or not. Ask and ask till you understand what is going on. These guys are going to make a lot of money off of you so take their time to make sure that you know what you are doing and what they are asking you to do.

Second: hope that the person that cashed your check hasn't split town. First thing in the morning call your mortgage broker and see what is going on. Do no take "I will get back to you" as an answer. Resolve this issue tommorow. This guy is holding money that you worked hard for. They have your money. Be a thorn in their side till you get some straight answers. Then if they have been a pain drop them in a heartbeat and find some other broker thats dying to earn the commision on selling you the loan. Remember these guys get paid to sell you into debt. They aren't doing you any favors buy approving you for a loan. Take a second and think if you really were able to handle the loan would it be so hard to get one. Brokers are falling over themselves to lend money.
