Hi,

What do most credit card companies do when they get a refund to a credit card that has been destroyed? I recently requested a new replacement from citi (due to a case of identity theft), and I just realized another company is refunding me for a purchase I made. Do they send me a check? I am not canceling a card. Rather, I just asked them for a replacement.

Normally if the original purchase was made with the credit card, a company would credit that account. You may have problems if you're switching account numbers. See if you can have a check mailed instead--or contact your credit card company to see if they can help. If the account number on your new card is the same as your old, you should be fine. no if it is a disputed amount then they have to reinburse the card for the amount charged. now if you paid that balance off even tho it was disputed due to a fraudulent charge then they will credit the card anyway and you will have a negative balance on your credit card, which you may request as a check from the card company or use.

in the UK (which they do have the same cards) even though the card has been cancelled/destroyed your number is still on file internally, so some companies put the refund to the number and all is ok. so your card may be in credit but you would not know it. it is best to contact the credit card company and ask 1. the same question 2. If there has been a refund to the credit card number could the credit card company forward the cheque to you.3. could they transfer the amount to your new card Good luck but this will happen as I have had the same situation
