I accidentally claimed the Hope Credit when I should have done Lifetime Learning, What now?
The key to financial power lies in your credit rating. If you plan to get a home loan, save money and get better credit starting now!
I used Tax Act Online for my 2007 return, and even though I clicked the button saying that I did not qualify for the Hope Credit it still counted it instead of the Lifetime Learning Credit. I didn't notice this until after I had filed my return, so now I'm assuming I should file a 1040X amendment. But I want to know if I should be sending a check for the difference along with the amendment or do I wait and the IRS will send me a bill? Any help would be great, thanks!
I accidentally claimed the Hope Credit when I should have done Lifetime Learning, What now?File 1040X and send any amount due with return. Filing before 4/15 means no penalties or interest will accrue.
