Any advice on traveling to Chongqing China?Hi, We just returned from a month of independent travel in China. We went to Chong Qing. We booked our hotels on-line through www.asiarooms.com and www.ratestogo.com - both were reliable and cheaper than the rates at the hotels themselves. Both websites have comments from other travellers which were indispensable in helping us choose the hotels.
We booked our flights within China at local travel agents(CTS etc). The flights were about 1/3 to 1/2 of the price we were quoted in Australia before we left. We found we were able to book flights for whenever we wanted them at very cheap prices and even the day before we wanted to fly. Air China was particularly good - I would rate it equal with any other full service airline.
We also used the trains for 2 overnight trips and the 5 hr journey from Cheng du to Chong Qing. The Z19 tourist train from Beijing to Xian was excellent but the "soft sleeper from Xian to chengdu was absolutely filthy.
The other way to travel to or from Chong qing is on the Yangzhe river cruises - we did 4 nights from Chong Qing to Yi Chang - definitely worthwhile.
