I hope I'm not trying everyone's patience because I posted on this topic just yesterday and, unfortunately, am more confused than ever.
Here's why. Almost everyone who responded to my previous post suggest ATMs are the best way to go, however, my bank informs me that I will be charged a fee of $4 each time I do an ATM Withdrawal, where I can get AMERICAN EXPRESS Traveller's Cheques for no Service Charge and one post said there's a flat rate of 30 or 40 baht no matter how hight the denomination of the cheque.
So PLEASE help me here, fellow YAHOOERS !!! Does ANYBODY have personal experience recently exchanging $100 USD Traveller's Cheques for BAHT in BKK?? Also, is there anybody from CANADA who has an INTERAC Card (that's my network) who has used their ATM card in THAILAND. (It works also on the PLUS Network and THAT'S the reason for the FEES.)
I've gotten some GREAT help on this Board. Does anybody want to know anything about CANADA????
BEST WISHES,
MICHAEL
HELLLLLP!!! ATMs, Travellers Checks or Credit Car in BKK?????$4 fee for using an ATM is pretty damn high. When I use the ATM in Thailand the Thai bank charges me %10 but my bank (Washington Mutual) doesn't charge anything.
I don't know, maybe Canadian banks are different.
The first couple of times I went to Thailand I used Amex travelers checks and they worked fine. My bank charged me 2% to purchase them, and the changers charged my small percentage (can't remember exactly). Ultimately the ATMs were cheaper and more convenient for me so I stopped using travelers checks, but there are tons of money changers around so travelers check are pretty easy also. Plus it's nice to know if you lose them you can get them replaced very easily (I've done it in Bangkok).
