How much should I pay a babysitter to watch my children once a week for 6 hours at night? I am taking 2 classes and need a babysitter for my kids: 8,5,3 and 1yr old. They are well behaved with no behavior issues. What should I expect to pay someone to come to my home to watch them? We live in Oklahoma if that makes a difference. Do you think a teenager would be responsible enough or should I hire an adult instead? Would you babysit for a friend like this or should I not ask friends? Most of my friends are childless so I can't just exchange babysitting services with another mom. I will only need a babysitter for a month (just on Wednesday nights) because my husband will be away. What do you think is a fair rate?

Minimum of 45.00 but 50.00 would be better. It is quite a bit of responsibility to care for 4 children, regardless of how well behaved they are. My 14 yo babysits 2 children, ages 8 and 10 and she gets 7.00 per hour. It's only a month so hopefully it shouldn't be too much of an issue for you. I wouldn't trust anyone under 16 for the job. And then, only if she has experience with babies. If it were me, I would ask a friend but just make sure you don't make her feel obligated and INSIST on paying her. Good Luck!

i think an older teenager (say 17+) you know and respect would be fine to watch your kids. if you don't know any, perhaps you know a friend of a friend that would be good. as far as paying them goes i think minimum wage is what someone should get at the very least!! 6 hours at 5.25 = 31.50 since there are four kids and two of them are preschoolers i would pay them more. doubling it to $60 seems reasonable to me.
