Dude, get the foot pedals for the appropriate sounds you want. It's cheaper than going all midi. Go down to any guitar shop and they'll let you try them out.

I just play for fun and I recently got rid of my old fender strat for a Epiphone Les Paul Studio. It's not the almighty Gibson, so it's made in large quantity, but I love it. Got it for $299 at Guitar Center. Can't beat that.

ibanez guitars are the greatest believe me when i say that but i doubt that you have the money to buy one that is worht buying the best type is the ibanez jems....jemsite.com but they are very expensive and if you dont play every day and aren't good at it then dont bother. it would be a waste of 2,000 at least. since you are just starting out go with something like a gibson a lower end ibanez or if you can a fender. and about the metal sound that has a lot to do with the guitar you get and the amp and all that. by the way line 6 makes osm amps but they are also expensive stick with a fender gibson or ibanez for right now get a decent amp like a peavy and when you gte better save up for a better one..i have been playing for years...so i am not new to this.
