First off...things are a little tough..but your education in itself is a gift. Just be happy you made it through to get some college under your belt.
Second....if you have applied to over 1500 jobs...guess what? You can apply for more. It seems vain but consider this.... If there is nothing for you in Michigan..Start fresh. Apply for jobs all over the country. I say this because..it sounds as if Michigan is not working out for you. And a job is a job. Starting fresh is your best bet to finding a good job and building your life. yeah its going to be hard, and yes...finding a place to stay will be even harder. But all the greats started off rough. But when you are able to get your own place...all the hard work will be worth it. Hope this helps!
Can someone please offer suggestions to help mith my current living situation?Get out of Michigan. I understand there aren't many jobs there. I assume you have a vehicle, use it to get away. Go to a large city and live in your car in a safe place but move to different locations each night, to keep safe. Mean while focus on what kind of work you are best at and you like. Then find employers that do that kind of work. Prepare a resume at the library, if you have any questions the librarians will be able to help.
Keep yourself and your clothes clean because you want to be presentable at the interviews. Also, once you find a place you would like to work, contact them either by phone or in person at least twice a work week. More if you really want the job. Don't forget about temp. agencies, like, ManPower etc. When you finally get an interview, know about the company, and if possible, know at least the name of the interviewer, and use it. Be punctial and alert. Dress conservatively. Bring whatever materials that you might need, example: extra resume, references or samples of your work. Give a firm handshake and only sit when asked. Ask questions about the job and display your interest and character. Think of questions that show thoughtfulness, curiosity and research (from the library). Write a thank you letter to the interviewer as soon as you get home (in your car). Make follow-up calls if you don't get a response by the date indicated. Be aggressive but do not badger.
