I'm working full time (average about 48 hours a week) and i'm taking 9 hours (which is all i can take) at a traditional university at the moment. My job is a temporary and i'm trying to finish school to have a back up plan so taking only 9 hours a semester is going to take me about 3 years to finish, which may be too long. So anyways University of Phoenix and Devry would allow me to get a degree a lot faster but i'm not sure if many employers would hire me. By the way I want to obtain a degree in Finance or Information Technology. And pursue a career as a Real Estate Broker, Loan Originator/Officer, Financial Advisor, or Database Manager.
Do employers honor degrees from University of Phoenix and Devry like a degree from atraditional college? No.
Think about this, if UOP or Devry offered an MD degree, would you feel comfortable with a graduate operating on you.
Do employers honor degrees from University of Phoenix and Devry like a degree from atraditional college? It depends very much on the employer. If the employer him/herself went to a traditional college, the answer is generally no. If the employer didn't go to college, s/he probably doesn't know the difference. Also, if the idea behind the degree requirement is just for the employer to say that the employee has a college degree, the online degree from a commercial enterprise may be respected, but if the idea is to ensure a level of knowledge, then probably not. The idea that you are doing this to finish faster gives a clue - speed is not supposed to be the issue in getting a degree. If taking courses at a traditional university is difficult to fit into your work schedule, then consider taking online courses at a traditional university - there are plenty now which offer online versions of what you are taking now. But if what you are looking for is a shortcut - less time, less work - then no, it is usually not as well-respected, nor should it be, just as anything done in a shoddy manner shouldn't be as well-respected as the real thing.
