I know this may sound like an odd situation but I have a Jeep that has about $4-5K in equity. What I really need out of the situation is 2 vehicles with approximately the same monthly payment. One new vehicle and then another older one that is in decent shape (basically will get me from point a to point b). So I guess my question is...can I take my Jeep to a dealership and trade it in for 2 vehicles?
I know that the best solution would be to sell the Jeep myself and then take the money that I make to pay cash for the older car and then just go get a loan for the new vehicle, but I was hoping for something a little faster (one never knows how long it could take to sell a vehicle on your own)....
Is it possible to trade one vehicle in for two?You have really answered your own question already..sell the jeep yourself, pay for a beater and finance something nice.
But since you want to know about going the other way..I will tell you.
YES, it is definatley possible to trade one for two. However, you are providing the dealer with double the opportunity to screw you. They will have the option of paying you whatever you want on your jeep and then overcharging you on both cars you buy, or way overcharge on one and charge fair on one, or screw you on the trade in and give you good deal on the 2 cars, or screw you on all three. JACKPOT for them.
The more transactions involved, the more room the dealer has to play with the numbers to make you think you are getting the best deal.
