I will be likely be going to Gonzaga Law school or Seattle Law university. I know that Gonzaga is a third tier school, and SU is ranked in the mid-nineties. I was wondering how someone that attends more of a lower ranked schools gets started in law. I will most likely go to Gonzaga however.
I would like to go into family/civil advocacy types of careers, but with school loans approaching $150,000, how would I get started with a career that would allow me to pay my loans?
Eventually, I'd like to start my own practice, but for you lawyers out there, would you advise me to start at the public sector (I know it's extremely fast paced, but I would gain experience), or should I try to get aboard at a small to mid-sized firm?
Thanks in advanced for any advice you could offer me
Law school career advisments, Lawyers, Please Help!?First of all, I must say that I congratulate you on your eagerness to join our profession and I wish you nothing but the best.
Second, here it comes.....the reality of the situation. The reality is that going to a lower-tiered law school will not likely present you with any options (that you currently foresee) worth considering from a practical standpoint if income is any consideration at all, which it is given that you are not of the sort of means that would not require loans to attend law school in the first place. Like many aspiring law students, you assume that there will be employers lining up, be they public or private sector, eager to offer you employment. This is a dangerous assumption.
