The key to survival is to develop a plan that suits your situation that does not involve someone giving you a job or a steady income sufficient to support you. If you can't figure out what this means, then you likely see the law as something other than what it is. The law is a profession and a business venture. It is not some course of study where there is a job waiting for you at the other end of a low-tiered degree.
Imagine yourself a physician or a dentist. You would need to figure out how to support yourself, establish a practice, attract patients, etc. Expect nothing different from the law. What you will earn in law school is the opportunity to become an attorney. Period.
The thing to remember is this: There are only two types of attorneys--those who work for their clients and those who work for other attorneys. Ask yourself this: do the type of people that I know tend to write fat checks to attorneys on a regular basis? Am I in a situation where I feel confident planning a business? These are the sorts of questions that you should be pondering if a low-tiered law school is where you are headed. Many people not in your situation will tell you otherwise. Many people who graduated from law school before 2002 (when this really started taking off --the contract attorney thing) will look at you like you are crazy. They don't know. If you doubt what I have to say, check out temporaryattorney.blogspot.com. Read it. Then, check out the yahoo! group for DC contract attorneys called DC Metro Contract Attorneys (DCMCA). You will get a view from two markets.
