I hate to sound harsh...but may sound like you are a "little" jealous? Just let him be later he will realize that rubbing stuff in people's face aint good. Don't sweat it and keep your head up.

As a friend you can kiddingly say....man, what are you complaining about? You at least have a car.

Since he's your friend you should be able to tell him how it sounds sometimes when he complains.

He probably doesn't understand how this makes you feel. Everyone lives different lives in their own little worlds. While one person's biggest problem may be how to keep food on the table, another person may never have had to worry about that and their biggest problem is a pimple on a big night. It is difficult for people to understand the plights of others without actually experiencing them themselves. Maybe you should take this guy to volunteer at a soup kitchen or some sort of charitable event where the people in benefit are actually in plain sight so he can get even a small taste of other peoples lives.
