I'm a student in College and I took out a Sallie Mae loan my first year. It was about $6400 and now I have the money to pay the loan in full.

I have a student free checking account with my bank Wachovia.

So I go on to Sallie Mae website to do the Payment option. They say I must use a U.S. bank. Now their asking for a routing number and account number.

I don't have checks but I have unlimited checks writing with Wachovia. How should I order the checks to make it faster.

I know when February comes, Sallie Mae will hit some interest on me and make my payment more

The routing number and account number will enable Sallie Mae to electronically pull the money from your Wachovia account.

If you don't feel comfortable giving free access to your bank account to a financial behemoth like Sallie Mae, you can open a savings account with a U.S. bank or credit union in the amount you owe to Sallie Mae (plus $25 in case there's a minimum balance required) into the new savings account. Then give Sallie Mae THAT routing and account number. This way, you can keep your regular Wachovia bank account number safe.

Later on, if some disgruntled former Sallie Mae employee decides to use your routing/transfer numbers to raid your bank account, there won't be anything to raid. Doubtful the same thing can be said about your Wachovia account. Please do guard your bank account information from unauthorized access.
