Anyone know if there is loan FORGIVENESS for those who pursue a career in SCHOOL psychology? The short answer is yes, there are loan forgiveness opportunities out there for students interested in school psychology.
The trick is you might have to find the right state and/or school that offers these programs. I know Florida offers tuition reimbursement/loan forgivness in the area of school psychology because I currently receive money from them (I've gotten just over $1,800 these past two years. The most I can get from them is $10,000 over the course of the program). Obviously the state will only give you this money for as long as you work in the state.
Most programs won't cover everything you're going to have to spend to finish your training, but in my case if I get the max of $10,000, that will pay for about half of my student loans. Not a bad deal!
The best thing you can do is ask about loan forgiveness programs when you go in for your grad school interviews. The professors should know the opportunities that are available to you. Remember, the school is not only interviewing you, but you are interviewing the school!
Also, look up the state you want to work in once you get out and see if they offer something as well. Check out their state financial aid webpages or their department of education webpages.
