I know of at least two students who have received loan forgiveness. In one student's case, it was a Perkins Loan forgiveness for service as a law enforcement officer. The other student has been a special ed. teacher for many years and received loan forgiveness for her service.
Loan forgiveness is limited to a select few "in-demand" professions. If you inquire about loan forgiveness to students in the teaching profession, I suspect you will receive a much more positive response than you initially received to your question. :-)

I'll be earning my BSW in a couple months and taking my Social Work Certification exam in the state of Wisconsin soon, and I know there are some areas of social work and specific agencies that offer student loan forgiveness. For instance, Illinois forgives a percentage of student loans after a person has completed a couple years of service in a Chicago child welfare agency. Working for some Head Start programs qualifies employees for a percentage student loan forgiveness, as well. I know there are others, most of which require a social, human, or community service focus. So, if you have a business degree of some kind, I'm afraid you may be s.o.l.
