A few years ago I consolidated my student loans and had to do leg work to get a list of all the student loans I'd ever had. I started with the U.S. Department of Education (I apologize I don't recall the office). They were VERY helpful and easily retrieved information about each loan I ever took out. I worked with the same guy everyday over the period of the a week. Just remember that doing this can get complicated because banks buy and sell loans to one another all the time. (Case in point: when I went through the process with the DOE, we found out that the federal government had actually duplicated one of my loans. Apparently that loan had been purchased by another vendor (I had no idea) but the credit for the amount of the purchase never showed up.) Anyway, here is what the DOE suggested:
