I heard that there is some kind of loan forgiveness. For example, the amount you have to pay back is lowered to some degree, if a law student goes into public interest law and helps people of lower income who have legal needs.

You don't get anything for just taking a pro bono case now and again. You can possibly work for Legal Aid part time, but it would be hard to fit in with another legal job. Are you planning to just take profitable cases on your own, on the side? As long as you are fulfulling the Legal Aid job requirements, you could do that.
