no you never give into every thing they want chrildren should be made to understand money dont grow on trees my daughter tried it when she was very young but did not work be strong tell how much you can afford and leave it at that have great christmas

i do give in to the pressure. I don't buy my children gifts for no reason throughout the year, so at Christmas I do make it as big as I can. Normally the only gifts I give during the year are for good grades and birthdays - and the good grade gifts are only small ones.

I make a BIG deal out of decorating and such, but I don't borrow money outside of charging on credit. And most years they still don't get quite everything on their lists. Their Christmas lists have already changed 3 times this year. That's why I usually wait til now to start Christmas shopping too

I certainly wouldn't go into debt to buy what my children were demanding for Christmas.

Now the issue is not so much money as whether ther requested items are appropriate. My daughter is asking for clothing that we feel unsuitable for her age and my son is wishing Nintendo games but as he has lost the ones he already had, I am reluctant to buy more unless he can show he will take care of them.
