I did once when my eldest was 4 (he's 22 now) and hell or high water he wanted a ride-on tractor with a trailer and lift bucket (a huge thing), so, being the good parents we bought it for him (amongst other things) - he opened it - took out the tractor, trailer et all, put it aside and proceeded to play with the box !! - for 2 weeks, it became a car and a space ship, even a house !!.

Never again.

Now I buy him CD cases...................you can fill in the blanks !!.

Nope. I just set a budget and tell them I'm not made of money. I don't see any point in pretending to be rich when I'm not, especially not to my kids. I must say though, my kids are older enough to understand stuff like this and I've always been a bit of a Scrouge were Christmas is concerned.
