Sorry this is not what you wanted to read, but it is legally accurate. Anyone who tells you that your fatehr has a case in law, is either deluded or a knave.
My dad was mis-advised 18 years ago and took out the wrong mortgage, can he sue?If he was dealing with a professional financial advisor that he was paying for the advice, then perhaps he could sue for malpractice. If he just didn't understand the nature of the loan, then in the absence of real fraud, he has no claim. He was free to read the whole thing or to take it to a lawyer but the mortgage broker owes him no duty other than to refrain from fraud. Even the fraud is allowable if everything was fully disclosed in the paperwork. Sorry, but people are generally responsible for their own decisions, even when they make those decisions in ignorance.
