My husband and I consolidated some debts when we got married. We are getting a divorce and he is taking financial responsibility for a loan. How do I get my name off of it when the divorce is final? Do I just fax them a copy of our decree stating that he takes full responsibility or what?
Divorce and finances?Have it put in the divorce papers that he's taking the responsibilites and send them a copy asking for your name to be removed. Not sure if that works but thats what Id do.
Divorce and finances?yes you just go down there and take it off.
Divorce and finances?Until the divorce is final, you're still partially responsible for any of his debts. The bill collectors won't care. Call the company he is getting the loan from, and ask them how you can insure that you're not liable for any late or missing payments. Get a copy of your credit report, both before and after the divorce - make sure you're not liable for anything more than you should be.
Divorce and finances?Every financial institution is different. I had to have him go down there and refinance it under his name only.
Divorce and finances?Depends on the type of loan. He will probably have to refinance the loan.
Divorce and finances?Whether it is put in the divorce decree, whether you fax them a copy of the divorce decree or even if you dance naked in front of the collector, it matters not. The debt holder is not a party to your divorce and as such, could care less.
