Not enought space to type all the details here, but I'll try to be as concise as I can. Is there anyway to find out if there is a phone, bank account, utilities, ect.. in your name that you didn't establish. We just found out someone has been using my wife's name and SS# to get these things. Nothing was showing up on her credit report until the person used the info try for home loan. We called the cops but they wont do anything becuase the person is out of state. We called the local cops there, but they wont do anything unless we sign a complaint in person (they wont accept a fax). We called the phone company and were able to get their phone turned off, but in the process found out they have had service for almost 6 years. How can I make sure they don't just go an establish phone service with someone else? I was also concerned because if they were applying for a loan, that would tell me that they probably have a bank account in my wife's name too.

As a Police Officer I would tell you to continue to check with the three credit bureaus to make sure something doesn't show up that you were not aware of. If you find something,contact that business or bank to let them know that you did not transact this. You will have to file a report with the proper agency to start an investigation. Every Department has someone working ID theft, it may cause you some inconvenience now, but not as much as it will down the road.
