I am attending college online at an accredited university. I have both student loans and a Pell Grant. I was told I could use the Pell Grant for anything. However, I need to purchase books and the school won't let me use financial aid to do so. Is this right? Is there anything I can do?

Can financial aid be used to purchase books?That's really strange. My husband and I both received Pell Grants and the school gave all extra money (after tuition was paid) to us outright. The money you receive is for your education and your classes require that you purchase books. I would talk with the financial aid department of your school (preferably in person) and tell them about your situation.

Can financial aid be used to purchase books?The cost of your on-line school is probably SO much that you are using all your Pell and your loans just to pay tuition. My advise is to find a nice "real" school where you can attend via on-line classes without loans and have your Pell pay for all of it. This is a definite possibility if you get the full Pell amount (around 2000K a semester)

Can financial aid be used to purchase books?if there is any excess funds from your grants, they are suppose to issue you a refund check, and you may use this to purchase your books. look over your statements to see if you should be expecting a refund. good luck.
