I need to get a student loan to cover my rent, food, electricity, internet, etc. I work as a waitress, but I'm not making enough to pay for these things. My dad pays for my tuition but won't pay for anything else, but I'm his dependent, so he's supposed to fill out a FAFSA for me. Anyways, I started filling out the FAFSA online until I got to the question about whether or not my parent had filed 2006 taxes. So I called him, and indeed, he had NOT filed his 2006 taxes. He is lazy and an idiot. So he told me he'd fill out the FAFSA for me. Well, he calls me back yesterday and tells me that he's not going to fill out the FAFSA and that I just need to work more hours to pay my rent/bills. I can't work more hours than I already do. I work 20-30 hours/week AND I take 15 credits. I do not have time. I called the FAFSA hotline and they told me that I cannot fill out a FAFSA without him because I'm his dependent. What else can I do?
AND isn't it illegal to not file taxes?
FAFSA/income taxes (long question)? There is an option on the fafsa that says "Will not file" or something like that on the income section of the fafsa.
Choose that, and then it will ask you his income for the year. Get this from his W2 forms from 2006.
Remember, some people are not required to file taxes, other people decide not to because of other **** reasons. You still need his income information on your fafsa, even if he doesn't/ isn't required to file.
