My dream is to open a candle shop.....?not to rain on your parade, but do your homework. There are A LOT of candle stores out there that I would imagine it would be hard to price yourself due to fact that many of these companies offer rather inexpensive shipping online. You might be better off buying into a chain, such as Yankee candle.
My dream is to open a candle shop.....?First, you need to attend some trade shows for candles, since you have to understand the product you are selling. And what else you can sell with your candles, candle holder etc...
This will be the base of your cost of goods. Then you will search for the perfect place for your store. And you can think about how big a place, the operation hours for the store... etc to calculate your operation cost. And to determine what is the markup that you are going to put on the candles. And storage area, and hourly workers etc...
First 2 years, you might break even, after than you can start making money. But do all the numbers, so you can pull together a business plan, then you can present to banks or people who are going to give you loans. But it is very difficult to get business loans. Be prepared with that. Start with the bank you are working with.
And do lots marketing research on what does your community needs.... for example, if you have a church there, and you can provide the standard taper white candles, and you can get a good contract with, people likes the decorative ones or the plain ones for everyday uses...
Good luck
My dream is to open a candle shop.....?Since you are in the "office" field have you written out a business plan that takes into consideration the costs of goods, rent, utilities, etc etc etc. What is your return on investment, inventory turn, advertizing/marketing plan, etc.? Are you buying from manufacturers or distributors..? What are their terms (net 30, rotating), returns, etc.?
Maybe you think I'm being negative, but honestly a "cute" store in a small town usually doesnt make much money and is a cash drain unless it's in the building that you also live in.
Please do a lot of research
