I disputed the negative items on my report through all three agencies online, hoping when they verified they would change the balances to 0$ and remove the delinquent status. Is this enough? Who do I go to in order to possibly remove the account from my credit file now, the collection agency or the financial institution?? any help would be appreciated i am currently serving overseas in Iraq, and want to get my credit fixed so I can purchase a home once i return. My score is 540 right now, two accounts, one mastercard and one bank loan that went delinquent and were charged off, and a past electric bill from a year ago. All three I just paid off before I sent in the disputes...
Paid my 3 delinquent bills that were charged off on my credit report...what now??Now the accounts will be reported as a "paid chargeoff" instead of an "unpaid chargeoff," which doesn't improve your credit score all that much. If the dispute results in them being removed from your credit report, then that would be optimal. But if the chargeoff is recent(less than a year old), then I wouldn't count on the dispute resulting in them being removed. If the chargeoffs are recent(especially since your payments on them have been recent), then the creditors probably still have the documentation showing that the chargeoffs were legitimately yours.
Whether the disputes work in your favor or not, you DO need to establish credit! Creditors need some GOOD credit to base your credit worthiness on. Start by getting a secured loan AND a secured credit card at a local credit union(banks sometimes offer these products, but not all of them do).
