a check is normally valid for 6 months from the date of the check--well at least in my country.
if you crossed the check then good as it is safer. if not still good since i am sure you wrote the payee clearly and any alterations should be spotted by the bank as well as any signature forgeries. if it happens someone forged your signature by signing for any alterations inn the check, you can always complain about it. a simple signature verification can prove that it was forged and the bank or whoever cleared it will be held liable for negligence. yeah it sounds bad but just trying to prove a point.
Should I issue a stop payment? You better stop payment on the check.
Since you paid it online, you account at the school will be clean.
the problem is if it does arrive the school will just put it in the bank. You account will be overdrawn and you will have even more fees to pay.
Or even worse, it would clear, then all your other checks, will bounce, and you will have massive fees!
