I took two courses @ a university online. I withdrew during the next two courses, leaving me with a balance of 2000, The collections department say they can only take $500 a month. I have no job, live under my parents house hold, Can't get a personal loan, Can't get a co-signer, and the company will NOT work with me. Will they sue? Will they garnish my taxes, and when I get a job, will they take that from me also?? More importantly, am I gonna go to jail? My dad is going to talk to his attorney, but I want answers now.
What else can I do? Do you know anything about this situation?
They'll (My School) sue me?Try to work with them on a payment plan that is something you can afford. Technically, they can due you for it, but they won't spend money on that unless they're sure they can't get it from you some other way. And when they decide to sue you, trust me, you'll know.
You definitely can't be sent to jail ... they stopped putting debtors in jail like in medieval times. Plus, if everyone who owed money went to jail, most of the country would be there.
They'll (My School) sue me?The school will most likely turn the account over to a collection agency, who will then harrass you incessantly. I don't think that 2k is enough for them to sue over. There's no "debtors jail" anymore, don't worry about that.
If you can afford an attorney, why don't you just pay the bill and avoid further damage to your credit.
