I think that my boyfriend's identity has been stolen. The only debt he has is to hospitals. Other than friends that have loaned him money, he owes no one else. Well, I think he still owes the electric company some money, but not much.
He has tried to apply for credit cards and such, and he gets turned down and there's a big list of reasons why they won't give him the card, most of which don't make sense.
We just tried to view his credit report online and all three agencies wouldn't show it to us. His last name is Smith, it's really common, could that have something to do with it.
Basically, we know his credit isn't perfect, but it's not nearly as bad as most places make it out to be. I have worse credit, I owe lots of money to banks and whatnot, and I have unpaid loans, and I still get credit cards.
What can we do? If you have questions, let me know. I can answer them on here.
What do you do if you think your identity has been stolen?Extensive proof is necessary for gathering credit information on line especially with that name. You get credit cards because you have a credit history or you may get credit card offers but not actually get approved if you are in default on loans. Income Debt ratio is one of the factors in getting a credit card. He may have a bad credit rating. Also government regulations have changed when it comes to obtaining credit. It's not as easy as in the past. If his identity was stolen he would be getting bills for a plasma tvs, speed boat, stereos and more. Credit info will have to be provided through the mail or credit agency.
