I HAVE RECIEVED TWO CALLS FROM THIS NUMBER BETWEEN YESTERDAY AND THIS MORNING. I DID TALK TO SOME FOREIGN ACCENT GUY BY THE NAME PETER WOOD OR SOMETHING . I DO KNOW HIS NAME IS PETER. HE TOLD ME HE WAS CALLING TO COLLECT DEBT FOR TWO PAYDAY LOAN SERVICES THAT I RECEIVED LOANS FROM AND HE SAID THEY FILED A CASE AGAINST MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER FIOR FRAUD AND HE READ ALL MY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO ME AND SAID THAT IF I DIDN'T WANT TO SETTLE TODAY THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY 4000 DOLLAR IN COURT OR TO STAY OUT OF COURT I COULD SETTLE FOR 800 DOLLARS AND PAY ONLY HALF OF THE MONEY TODAY BY 12 NOON. IF I DON'T I WILL HAVE TO GO TO COURT./ HE DIDN'T GIVE ME A NAME OF THE COMPANY HE WAS CALLING FROM ONLY HIS NAME AND THIS NUMBER TO CALL (941)375-6859. I AM VERY SCARED BECAUSE I HAVE RECEIVED A PAYDAY LOAN FROM PAYDAY SERVICES BUT I DON'T REMEMBER WHICH ONES. BUT I AM SCARED BECAUSE HE HAS ALL MY PERSONAL INFORMATION. I LIVE IN NORTH CAROLINA AND I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT DEBT COLLECTION.
What collection agency is this?(941)375-6859?I ran this number through a search engine and it looks like it's based in the Bahamas. It seems possible, based on my superficial research, that it's a scam. People are reporting that callers are threatening jail (which isn't possible for debt non-payment) and are not licensed to do business in the state to which they're calling, making demands of pay-now-or-else.
If you have not repaid your loan from PayDay, contact them as to its status. If they have turned it over for collection, find out to what company and who to contact there. Get a mailing address, not just a phone number, and make all your inquiries in writing (keeping a copy for yourself).
