Career advice for my mom in early 60s trying to start over?

My mother has been trying to think of a business to start for herself. She has not worked in over 30 years (she worked as a loan manager's assistant at a big bank for less than a year after college). She was a homemaker, and when my father died a few years ago, she's been living off of his insurance money. She does not want to get a job and she wants to make her own money since she doesn't have anything saved up for retirement (she doesn't want any money from me). She does not speak/write perfect English, can barely use a computer, and has no professional skills, although she is a quick learner. She won't listen to me, so is there a way to find a general career advisor/consultant who could maybe steer in in the right direction and tell her she needs work experience before she starts a business?

Career advice for my mom in early 60s trying to start over?The first step is to get her to being social - by observing other people who active and enjoying life - learning computer skills (primarily to chat with grandchildren or send photos, etc... but learning how to use computers) - see if there are volunteer groups that provide information - there are many groups in the US, Europe and the UK that provide volunteers how are basically retired people from successful enterprises - you may find one with not only the ideas and teaching ability but language skills to be able to better assist your mother in understanding what types businesses and how to go about the process - check with your local chamber of commerce - lastly rememBer ber you are too close (my wife did not start seeking advice and input about her start-up until she got the same information first from people in her own culture and who where not so close - even though I have started and operated several successful enterprise and teach entrepreneurship and business development) and have a successful consulting career - you may find that you eventually have better relationship that build both your careers successfully as the barriers come down and you find more in common than you thought at first
