The Short listing may be conducted by a sub group of the panel and generally will involve the Chair and the Human Resource Professional if included on the panel. It may also involve other members of the selection panel as determined by the Chair. For Example, if 100 people apply for a job and there is only one position to be filled. The employer may make a list of the top five or so people to re-interview.
Interview process & telephone interview
The same person will interview and make decisions about hiring. But if they鈥檙e group interview then main person can make decision during the interview. There may be a series of interviews, and the hiring decision can be made by someone who's never interviewed the candidate before. There can be a phone interview round before any in-person interviews, there can be just a phone interview, and there can be just in-person endless variations. Each company does what fits them best. Some organization have different interview process.
Phone interviews give the company a chance to get a feel for new employee鈥檚 skill-set, interests, desired compensation etc., and see if there is a match between their needs and employee鈥檚 strengths. If there is enough common ground, then the phone interviews are almost always followed-up by an in-person interview. Phone interviews are generally conducted in two steps. The first step is with a recruiter in Human Resources. The second step is a technical interview, usually with one of the people would be working with. Technical phone interviews are conducted for people living outside the geographical region. This is done because the company wants to have some level of confidence in technical abilities before they decided to hire them.
