Is this information available publicLy and, if so, where do I go to get the info? I am in California.
As a sidenote, which you can ansewr if you know, I've got a mEchanic's lien against my property and the lien is in the name of a construction company (listed under "firm") and the "signature of claimant or authorized agent" is a gentlemen who signs his name and then writes "owner", but, when we were trying to get a loan for this guy to build our house they ran his credit and denied him and so he came forward and said the business is in his wife's name and she is the owner, not him. Can this be a loophole to make the lien null and void? Answer quick! I'm getting ready to go plunk down a lot of money to bond around this jerk. Maybe I won't need to?

CONSTRUCTION LAW: Corporation Info and Mechanic's Lien Question...?You can check online with the California Secretary of State website and choose the corporations tab and search under corporations name search. You should be able to find the president, address, name of agent for service of process through that website.

There's generally no reason to bond off a lien unless you're selling, refinancing, or doing something with the property that the lien will interfere with. As to whether the signature may vitiate the lien -- that's a question for your lawyer.
