I made a loan to someone and she said she will pay me when she gets her taxes back.
She said she will just sign the check over to me (write: pay to my name) on the back of it.
The check is fairly large (5500) So i'm just wondering if I will run into any problems with her doing this...
Also-what information should I make sure she puts on the back of the check besides that, and her signature.
Thanks.
Can you sign your IRS check over to someone? You might or might not have trouble cashing or depositing it. She might have to go to your bank with you. Check with your bank - some are stricter than others when it comes to IRS checks.
Can you sign your IRS check over to someone?Sounds fishy. Does she owe you more than her tax return? In any case take a look at the following site...

From the irs website, it seems that only you can sign and cash your own refund check. I think you may come to some trouble when trying to cash the check.
Can you sign your IRS check over to someone?Theoretically she could.
But I have never found a bank that will accept a third party ("signed over") government check from an individual unless the person named on the front shows up in person and presents ID when you attempt to cash or deposit it. In recent years, some banks have instituted policies not to accept third party checks from consumers under any circumstances.
It's ultimately up to the bank. We can give you theoretical answers about what the bank is allowed to or not allowed to do. But the bank can decline to accept any check for any reason. The only way for you to know for sure is to go to the bank where you plan to deposit the check and ask them.
Why can't your friend just deposit the check in her own account and write you her own check?
