will i be eligible to discharge my student loan????

heres my story,

I went to devry 3 years ago and they promise me that they can help me get approved on the student loan. During that time my green card was still in process. And then in the middle of 2nd semester they told me that they can鈥檛 do anything to help me get the loan because my green card was still on process. For that reason I just dropped out of school because I can鈥檛 pay my tuition fees. Then after a few months the collection agency started to call me asking them to pay my debt. I didn鈥檛 pay them because the school tricked me, they said that they can help me get the loan but they didn鈥檛. Then a few more months they put my student loan in default.

I was just wondering if this situation will be qualified to discharge my student loan. I want to go back to school and get financial aid. I just got my green card 6 months ago.

you will have to prove that the school is at fault. you will need paperwork to back up your statements. i'm guessing there will be no promises in writing that they would secure your loan.

devry is a 'for profit' school. they don't receive government funds. they only make money through tuition. they charge much more than public universities but offer convenience in return. many of these 'for-profit' schools have been accused of less than friendly business practices.

it sounds like they sold you a bill of goods and then pulled the rug out. i'd get a lawyer if you really want to fight it but i don't think your chances will be too good.
