You like what you're learning in grad school, yes? That's why you chose that field of study, right? So have a great time being a scholar and start thinking of your classmates as colleagues!
Oh, and don't pay for a liesure class. I bet your college has some free activities. Maybe a gym where you could do something you like such as swim? Maybe a campus organization based on community service or religion or politics? Find something free to do that you do with other students. Try to get some of your classmates to come along.

Grad student frustrated with financial, social situation. Advice?If you're an hour from school and an hour from your friends, why are you there? You only work 15 hours, so surely your job isn't what's keeping you. Can you find a job closer to campus and move? Then you'll be around for more campus activities and you'll feel like there's more to life. I'm sure there's stuff to do around campus that doesn't cost anything (or not much) and would be fun and you'd meet people, but I can't blame you for not being able to stick around to all hours or join late-night study groups when you have to drive an hour back home--and the gas must be killing you.
If you're paying rent where you are now, I'd suggest finding a place closer to school where you can move. You'll make new friends in your classes who you can hang out with, and your more distant friends will still be friends if you still talk and write, and the times you do get together will be more special to you both.
