In order for my sister-in-law to get a student loan, she needed a cosigner because her credit was bad. I cosigned the loan even thou its technically under her name. Since she hasn't been able to pay it back, I've been paying the loan off since day one. I'd like to know if I can get claim the interest paid in 2007 on my tax return this year.

I cosigned an education loan for my sister-in-law and I'm making all the payments. Can I deduct the interest?

The Interest statement should have already been sent. I'm guessing you haven't seen it yet, and she might have it. Use this statement to claim this interest in your taxes. Hopefully she hasn't used it to claim already.

Good Luck!!
