I have a 6500 maxed out card and an 8000 unsecured loan through two diffent companies. I could not afford to pay them so I enrolled into a debt free program but could not keep up the payments so I withdrew. I have not made a single payment to either company in 1 1/2 years. I know that SOL in AZ are three years but I continue to get harrassed by collections... I think since the debt i have had 20 different companies trying to collect so I am assuming they are selling my debt to other agencies.... How long does it normally take if at all for an agency to start the ball rolling on a lawsuit?

What you see as harassment is actually a company's legal right to persue payment of a debt. They don't give $6500 away for free. They are allowed to call you up to 3 times a day between the hours of 8am to 9pm. They are allowed to talk to you 1 time a day. If you say it's you, the debtor, and then hang up that counts as a contact and they can't call you again that day unless you've agreed to it.

Bottom line is you should pay this. If you don't, you're just helping to increase interest rates for other people and make it harder for anyone to get credit. Do your part in society & take care of your responsibilities.

Figure out a way to bring in some extra income or cut back on your expenses. Work out a payment plan with them (they have to agree to it, they can take legal action even if you're paying $500 a month if it's not agreed upon by them). They won't take any more out of your checking account then they are authorized. The claim that they'll drain an account is from the person above is rediculous. If they did that, you be sitting in the cat seat. It's easier to make payments on time when payments are automatic & scheduled right after your paydays.
