i am overloaded with debt on fixed income. i have fair credit, but no collateral. is there a loan company that will help when you have more going out than coming in? i live in tennessee. i am a widow and trying to help my son and his family has put me in a bind. any advice would be appreciated.

There are likely more than a few institutions that would be happy to sign you up, but it's unlikely that your interest rates will do much to help you in the long run. It's more than likely that, if your situation is bad enough, you'll just have another bill you won't be able to pay, especially if your son/son's family have another crisis. If you own your home, you could consider a home equity loan, but then you risk your home should the aforementioned situation occur. In all cases, see local, well established institutions (major banks) for the fairest deal. They might not be as quick to approve, but they wont rape you with interest as much, either.

Consider liquidating (selling) any assets you have, reduce your living costs in any way you can (internet bill?) and, if all else fails, find a large church and appeal for some generous donation money. I know they've helped out persons I've known more than once - though you might want to volunteer at some point to even the slate.
