I've heard if you get a big loan from a bank and pay it back that's a good start, but I've been denied for the smallest amount of unsecured loan from my bank ($3,000 Wells Fargo) I have a "charge off", went to collections, from when I lost my job, and couldn't work for 8 months. Since then I've paid off my debt and been in excellent standing since then. My t.u. fico score has gone from 572 to 668 over 10 months. I have been debt free since September. My credit to debt ratio is very low as a result since I have no expenses. I am also trying to save money for a downpayment so if there are any types of savings that help build credit let me know too.

One thing you can do to assist you in rebuilding your credit is to obtain a SECURED credit card from your bank. This means that you deposit an amount into the bank and they then give you a credit card that has a limit equal to the amount you deposit. You use the card and pay it back each month - that will help your credit. Congratulations on taking responsibility for paying off the bad debt - and great job on getting your scores up so much already!

You might get a credit card and use it sparingly like once a month then pay it off every month. That should help. There are many sites out there to help repair your credit, but 668 is getting there. It sounds like you are on the right track, just keep up the good work. Good Luck!
